SUMMARY:An Immigrant Family in Pre-1906 San Francisco – a Case Study
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco suffered profound record loss following the 1906 earthquake and fire. Despite this loss\, various resources will be examined\, analyzed\, and correlated in order to document an immigrant family who arrived in “The City” around 1855\, just a few years after statehood. Newspapers\, maps\, city directories\, and use of the FAN club will provide sufficient data to tell the story of this family. Suitable for intermediate and advanced researchers. \n\n\n\n~~~~ \n\n\n\nLinda Harms Okazaki is a fourth-generation Californian who is passionate about teaching people of all ages to research\, document\, and share their family histories. Her areas of interest include California\, upstate New York\, England\, Australia\, Japanese Americans\, and the use of DNA in genealogy. Ms. Okazaki is a charter member of the Nikkei Genealogical Society\, and a research consultant for Ancestry’s Progenealogists and Densho.org. Her column\, “Finding Your Nikkei Roots\,” is published bimonthly in the Nichi Bei Weekly. Ms. Okazaki is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists\, the Genealogical Speaker’s Guild\, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.~~~~ \n\n\n\nJoin in person to see this live presentation at the Davis Senior Center\, 646 A St.\, Davis\, or via Zoom. DGC Hybrid meetings are free and open to the public. Guest passes for Zoom available via email to president@davisgenealogy.org. ~~~~ \n\n\n\nA free book table is often available at the meeting for in-person attendees. Refreshments are welcome\, some will be provided by the club. \n\n\n\n ~~~~ \n\n\n\nOn this day\, the Genealogy Library will be open and staffed from Noon to 1:00 pm before the meeting starts. The Library has new hours. We’re also open and staffed by a volunteer on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 3:30 pm and on Fridays from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm. Please mark your calendar and drop in!
