SUMMARY:Using Maps in Genealogical Research
DESCRIPTION:Maps obviously help us identify where a place is located. For genealogists\, there are many other things maps can help us achieve: visualize past environments\, document boundary changes\, show the locations of cemeteries\, churches\, and schools\, suggest migration routes\, and assist us in critically analyzing records. A variety of maps that are helpful in genealogical research will be discussed as well as methods to locate them. \n\n\n\n~ // ~ \n\n\n\nMelinda Kashuba is a professional genealogist. Among her numerous publications\, she authored a book about maps and genealogy entitled “Walking with Your Ancestors.”   She specializes in 19th – 21st century California records. She is a member of NGS\, APG\, CGS\, and the Shasta Genealogical Society. She has served as a registrar for two chapters of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. \n\n\n\n~ // ~ \n\n\n\nJoin in person to see this remote presentation at the Davis Senior Center\, 646 A St.\, Davis\, or via Zoom. DGC Hybrid meetings are free and open to the public. Guest passes for Zoom available via email to president@davisgenealogy.org.~ // ~A free book table is often available at the meeting for in-person attendees. Refreshments are welcome\, some will be provided by the club. \n\n\n\n~ // ~ \n\n\n\nOn this day\, the Genealogy Library will be open and staffed from Noon to 1:00 pm before the meeting starts. The Library has new hours. We’re also open and staffed by a volunteer on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 3:30 pm and on Fridays from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm. Please mark your calendar and drop in!
