SUMMARY:Topic Talk - Maritime Research
DESCRIPTION:Merchant marine grandfather?  Immigrant great-grandmother born on the seas?  A family of sail makers?  WWII uncle shipwrecked in the Pacific?  Mother swim the English Channel on a dare?  Submarine design engineers\, anyone?  What role do the wet parts of the globe play in your family research?  River talk welcome.  Bring a towel and stay dry as we lounge on land to discuss.  (Or dogpaddle\, if you must\, but don’t blame swimming in genealogy for the wrinkled skin.)

SUMMARY:Probate Records: The Alphabet Soup of Probate
DESCRIPTION:Probate is one of the most important record sources available to genealogists to prove family relationships.  Researchers need to explore all parts of the probate process\, not just the will.  Join us for this presentation by family history specialist Glenda Gardner Lloyd to learn how to use probate records most effectively in your genealogy research. \n\n\n\nGlenda Gardner Lloyd is a fourth generation Californian. She grew up on a cattle ranch in northeastern California and attended a one-room country school. She received her BA from the University of California\, Santa Barbara and her MA from California State University\, Sacramento. She taught elementary school and worked as a reading specialist for thirty-eight years. \n\n\n\nGlenda helped organize and served as the first president of Root Cellar\, Sacramento Genealogical Society. She has taught genealogy classes through San Juan Adult Education for many years. She participates in local seminars for the California State Archives\, the Regional Family History Center\, the Sacramento City Library\, and does workshops for many local societies. In addition\, she has lectured for the Salt Lake Institute. \n\n\n\nGenealogy is her hobby and her passion which she hopes to share with all of you.

SUMMARY:Follow-up Discussion
DESCRIPTION:The Monday-After Presentation Follow-up is how Davis Genealogy Club members discuss what we learned at our General Meeting and Presentation the prior week! We discuss what we found helpful from the speaker and how we can apply what we learned in our own research! Even if you didn’t make it to the presentation\, all members are more than welcome to come and join the discussion. After the speaker follow-up\, members are encouraged to share what is new with their genealogy research and ask questions about other genealogy related topics.
