DESCRIPTION:Don Gilman is a brilliant yet socially challenged professor of genetics\, who has decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly manner with which Don approaches all things\, he designs the Wife Project to find his perfect partner\, a sixteen page scientific survey to filter out the drinkers\, smokers\, late arrivers. Rosie Jarman is all these things. She also is strangely beguiling\, fiery\, and intelligent. While Don Quickly disqualifies her as a candidate for the Wife Project\, as a DNA expert\, Don is particularly suited to help Rose on her own quest\, identifying her biological father. SUMMARY:The Geography of American Genealogy
DESCRIPTION:Many of our ancestors were part of groups that left homelands at particular times and moved together to specific regions in America. For example\, many people left Ireland during a blight that destroyed their potato crop and then moved to American places where they could make a living without growing potatoes. About the same time political upheavals caused many Germans to settle in quite different American regions. Such migrations are just two of many that will be discussed. Together\, they are the geography of genealogy. Your ancestors are part of this geography. \n\n\n\n~~~~ \n\n\n\nGlen Holstein holds a PhD from U.C. Davis and is retired from a career as a consulting landscape ecologist. While his professional career primarily concerned the geography of plants and animals\, Glen also has a strong interest in patterns of human movements across landscapes\, which is the geography of genealogy. \n\n\n\n~~~~ \n\n\n\nJoin in person to see this live presentation at the Davis Senior Center\, 646 A St.\, Davis\, or via Zoom. DGC Hybrid meetings are free and open to the public. Guest passes for Zoom available via email to president@davisgenealogy.org.~~~~ \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nA free book table is often available at the meeting for in-person attendees. Refreshments are welcome\, some will be provided by the club.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n~~~~ \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOn this day\, the Genealogy Library will be open and staffed from Noon to 1:00 pm before the meeting starts. The Library has new hours. We’re also open and staffed by a volunteer on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 3:30 pm and on Fridays from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm. Please mark your calendar and drop in!
