Topic Talk – Pre-State Indian Territories

September 8, 2025 @ 1:00 pm

Before the eventual European-descendant newcomers to North America, there were “Indians.”  Before some eventual states, there were Indian Territories.  Indian Territory: a region of land set aside by the United States government to relocate Native American tribes from their ancestral lands in the southeastern and other areas of the US.  Where to?  Current-day Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, No. and So. Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado.  Did your ancestors get moved?  Participate in removal?  Impact removal?  Live in a place before it became one?  Let’s figure this out.
