What’s Different about Jewish Genealogy?
September 16, 2025 @ 1:00 pm
This presentation will provide a practical guide to finding Jewish relatives and ancestors. Victoria will discuss emigration patterns, the shifting borders of European countries, using multiple first names of Jewish immigrants, surname changes (not at Ellis Island!), and how naming conventions and finding a headstone inscription may help you to work backwards in time to an earlier generation.

A native New Yorker, Victoria Fisch has been engaged in genealogical pursuits for over forty years. President of the Sacramento Genealogical Society, she and her husband, Jeremy Frankel, president of the S.F. Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society, work as professional genealogists under the name Frankel & Fisch.
Their projects have included investigations for the television series “Who Do You Think You Are” and “Finding Your Roots,” and their clientele has included academics, authors, police and fire departments, a museum, and people like you!
