Beyond the Paper Trail: Restoring Identity Through Genetic Genealogy

May 19, 2026 @ 1:00 pm

What happens when the records go silent? This session dives into the transformative power of
DNA, showcasing real-world breakthroughs including examples from the Davis Genealogy Club.
We will explore how advanced genetic testing can shatter ‘brick walls’ to reclaim the identity of
lost ancestors and navigate the complexities of Non-Paternity Events (NPEs). We’ll move beyond
the data to reflect on the impact these discoveries have on the families who finally find their way
home.

Davis resident Jonathan W. Long has spent over forty years tracing all of his family lines back through the American colonial era to their immigrant ancestors. He leverages both genetic and traditional genealogical methods to resolve complex lineage puzzles, and helps coordinate the Davis
Genealogy Club’s DNA study group.
Since retiring from federal service, he remains active in ecological
restoration efforts in California and Arizona.

Join us in-person at the Davis Senior Center (646 A St., Davis), or via Zoom (email us at president@davisgenealogy.org to request a single use guest pass).
Refreshments are provided by the club; more are always welcome!
The Davis Genealogy Club Library will be open on meeting day from 12:00-1:00pm-Swing by and check it out!
Club volunteers are also in the Library every Wednesday between 1:00 and 3:30, ready to help.
