Genealogy Journey – California to Ireland by Terry Dunlap

I will trace my discovery path used to research my Irish great grandparents from Longford County. I will review fundamental genealogy research methods used along the way. My starting point was knowing practically nothing about my immigrant great-grandparents and their story. The current end point status is that I know the pertinent townlands. In 2025, I met my 2C1R in the county of Longford, and visited my ancestor’s childhood home.

I am a 3rd generation Californian, serving as my family’s genealogy sleuth. I have been investigating my family history, concentrating on the generation of immigration for a while now. The pandemic shut down provided the time to review everything that I had gathered over the years. I’ve spent the last few years concentrating on methods of organization for the huge mass of information
